What You Need – and Valuable Links for Gunpla
Here you will find a comprehensive overview of tools, guides, and external sites that will make your Gunpla journey much easier. Everything here is based on my own experiences and preferences – there are tons of creators and solutions out there, so feel free to explore further.
1. Start Here – Read the Manual's Icons
First and foremost, you need to learn how to read the icons in the manual. This way, you save time and avoid assembling things in the wrong order.
How to Read the Icons in the Manual2. Tools – From First Kit to Perfectionist
Essential Tools
This is the minimum to get started well:
- Nippers – for cutting parts from the runner.
- Tweezers – for removing and placing stickers.
Next Step Tools
Typically where you end up after your first kit:
- Cutting Mat – provides an overview and protects your table.
- Panel Lining Markers – to highlight armor details.
- Hobby Knife – to refine nub marks.
- File / Sandpaper – to make the surface completely smooth.
DSPIAE and GUNPRIMER make excellent files and sandpaper with comfortable handles.
The Perfectionist
- Single-Edged Nipper – for super clean cuts and fewer stress marks.
- Alligator Clips + Holder – for holding freshly painted parts.
- Markers in Many Colors – e.g., Molotow Chrome Marker and Gundam Gold Marker.
- Top Coat – protects decals and provides either a gloss or matte finish.
The Customizer
Here you can just raid the shop – everything for:
- Panel lining
- Drills, pla-plate, and glues
- Priming and painting (paints designed for Gunpla)
Lots of great gear from DSPIAE and GUNPRIMER, as well as dedicated Gunpla paints.
Find the size you want to build, order from the webshop – and you'll be underway shortly after. Remember: price often correlates with the amount of plastic.
3. Video Guides to the Building Process
Building Process & Nub Marks
How to use nippers and a hobby knife, and how to remove nub marks as cleanly as possible. You don't have to be as extreme as in the videos – but if you want a perfect finish, just get started.

Panel Lining
Panel lining significantly elevates the look. See the technique behind it, and remember: do not use panel lining on ABS plastic (indicated as ABS on the runner/sprue – typically inner frame parts).

If stickers aren't good enough, then water slides are the way to go. You can find them in the shop and learn how to apply them in the guide.
