I've built the MG Zeta 2.0 and RG Zeta before building this Ver.Ka (As well as the ZZ Ver.Ka and FAZZ Ver.Ka), so this is more of a comparison review.
Aesthetics:
When you look at the different versions, it becomes obvious that the Zeta Ver.Ka is quite different from its other iterations, mainly that the chest is sloped downwards, the back wing assembly is much smaller and there are some notable color differences. The yellow is more neon (rather than warm) and the blue is less saturated and just slightly more green. Additionally it has a few matte silver plated details that the ZZ Ver.Ka also has.
The design looks way sharper/more angular, with more surface detail and is overall more mechanical looking, with chunkier hands and a smaller wave rider mode, its wings looking almost comically small.
Personally, this is my least favorite iteration of the Zeta, aesthetically, but it's not ugly by any means.
The kit has a small sheet of Ver.Ka styled water slide decals and the same sort of pale green foil stickers for the individual eyes and cameras, that the ZZ has.
Mechanics:
This is where the Ver.Ka shines - While the model isn't a master of articulation, it is by far better than its other iterations and can not just stand on its own easily, but poses dynamically with a lateral torso tilt, slight crunch, functional legs and lifting arms with forearm tilts.
Not just that, but it feels *solid*, being nowhere near the floppy spaghetti mess that the venerable 2005 2.0 becomes while transforming. That being said, the transformation itself is still fairly complex and has even more to fiddle with, like the arms contracting.
Equipment:
1 Beam Rifle - Storable on forearms and on top of the wave rider form
1 Shield - Doubles as the nose cone as usual
2 Beam Saber Hilts - Black, stored in the side skirts, comes with two red-pink beam effects
2 Grenade Packs - Fixed onto either or both forearms
2 Swappable finger hands, two spread open fingers, two rifle holding fingers and two beam saber holding fingers
2 Fists - Separate from the swappable finger hands
1 Extra V-fin that doesn't transform (looks more whole)
1 Kamille (Kamille's a man's name and I'm a man!) mini-fig
2 Base Adapters for mobile suit and wave rider mode (very solid)
Conclusion:
I like the model when it's by itself, but I prefer the old, more anime accurate design of the 2.0.
That being said, 18 years of difference results in a way better kit and it's nigh on incomparable, this IS the superior and best mechanical version of the Zeta Gundam, even if the wave rider form is more 'loose' feeling, without being sloppy, requiring more fiddling to make everything look straight.
This is not the 'ultimate' Zeta kit, in wave rider form and aesthetically, it feels compromised to me, I can't help but feel there could be a better version of this that feels AND looks great in both modes.
Still, I'm happy I bought this version and had fun with it.
The big launch-base and Hyper Mega Launcher are ABSENT from this version, and only come with the 2.0
